This is where to post what's going on in Rock and Rennington.
Contributions from Stamford and Christon Bank are also very welcome.

A new welcome page advertisement for
Scarecrows 2004.
Any ideas or material for the site are very welcome. Please email any contributions to the webmaster.
From the webmaster
Dear All,
Firstly, I hope that you are all looking forward to the summer. I was working during the bank holiday
of 2006 and sadly, I
didn't manage to visit the village to see the Scarecrows this year. If anyone
has digital photographs of the scarecrows then please email me (bottom of this
page, or on the navigation panel on the left) as I will happily include
any new photographs on the site.
The website has been running now for 5 years, it has
received almost 6000 hits and is becoming a growing presence on the internet. To
prove this, if you were to search for 'rennington' using Google,
the number one search engine, you'd find
www.rennington.flyer.co.uk in first position. This takes a fair amount of effort to achieve and a lot of
time. As some of you may know, I've set up this website from scratch and it has
already undergone one major redesign to keep it up-to-date and easy to use.
Designing websites is merely a hobby and I've put a lot of effort into
RockandRennington. There have been no grants, fund allocations or even a profit to help with
this and it's all been in my own time and with my own money supporting the site and
the costs of hosting and maintaining it. Thanks must go to David Barraclough,
Mick Davison and The Masons Arms for useful material along the way.
It would good to see some more contributions from residents; ex-residents and
visitors; otherwise RockandRennington will not remain up to date. I live far from Northumberland and have a busy career far removed from
the internet. You are my eyes, ears. If you have a business and
would like to see it advertised (graphics and photographs designed and altered -
look at The Grange photographs - there was a Nissan Micra there! and their logo
was designed using a photograph of the sign on the wall), think about including your business on Rock and
Rennington's Local Businesses if you don't have a web presence elsewhere, or
even if you do, the search engines will list it higher when it is linked
to well-linked sites like this.
Advertise on this site
A donation to the costs of keeping the website online would be
appreciated; a £5* one off fee to advertise your business isn't very much
considering:
- This site is the top response when Google, the
number one internet search
engine, is used to search for 'Rennington'.
- We have been linked to an ever increasing number of websites including
The BBC, Alnwick
online, Alnwick county and coastal tourist
association, Geordie
search, Barter Books, Genuki UK geneological search,
Rootsweb (worldwide geneology),
New Zealand geneology,
The Masons Arms, some obscure
Scarecrow sites and more.
- Contributing to the continuation of this site is a contribution to the
village and to the growth of the site.
Please note that there will be no charge for any inclusion on the
notice-board for news, sales, wants or anything else that's useful.
* If you supply the logo and text, otherwise there will be a small
increase to cover design time.

From a Visitor
Dear Rennington Village,
We were fortunate enough to be visiting my mum
and dad whilst your event was taking place this year and can
I say well done to you all, what a fantastic event.
I was brought up in Wideopen and moved down
south when I was 23, I now live in one of the smallest villages in Hampshire,
a village called East Tytherley. Over the years there has been fantastic
fund raising events for our Church, St Peters, but like most villages we now
struggle to find new events/ideas in order to raise funds, when all
the schools, village halls and Churches in the area are desperate for funding.
Which is why I'm contacting you now. I thought
your village event was fantastic and certainly from
the website information, last year's event was
a major success for Rennington. I would love to talk to one of your organisers
about how successful you feel this event has been over the years and what
problems, if any, you've encountered.
I understand you started with only 30
scarecrows, which is amazing taking into account how many we spotted this
year, its seems the whole village has been captivated by the idea. I would
love to see something similar take place in our village ....would you mind if
we copied your idea? We would obviously give credit to Rennington for the
inspiration .. that goes without saying. Any help or advice would be so much
appreciated. We currently need to raise a significant amount of money for repairs
to our Church this year ... so new ideas would be welcomed.
Congratulations once again and if there is
someone who can contact me, I would be most grateful.
Scarecrows 2006
A roaring success, yet again. How do people come up with such fantastic ideas
every year? As the embers die down from the scarecrow bonfire, ideas turn to
next year.
Geneology
Is there anyone interested or involved in family research? I need someone to help with the 1851 census to look for a Morpeth Family.
Kind Regards,
Sarah Jary (Morpeth).

HMS Rennington
Hi, I happened on to your website looking for information about the village of Rennington.
Although I have never been to your part of the country (I live in Plymouth) my interest stems from the fact that
I have in my possession the actual ship's bell of HMS Rennington. You may or may not be interested to know that I served
on HMS Rennington during the 1960s. She was a "Ton" class Coastal Minesweeper and, when she was scrapped in the late 60's,
I obtained her ship's bell. It has been in my possession ever since.
I like your site, Many Thanks, Paul Sawbridge. email: pj@rosewood18.fsnet.co.uk
A regular visitor
Having visited your village with my family, staying at Craster caravan site, we feel that you could have sold yourselves more (flyers to the site) etc.
There were signs at certain points, but not enough at road junctions. We decided to visit having met a friend who recommended it, and loved it a lot.
It shows how communities do work together and if this is an annual event, it should be published more widely. We would love to hear about
similar events, as only being 45 minutes away, we would certainly try and get to them.
Many thanks for a lovely day.
The Hayes Family.
My family and friends recently enjoyed a visit to the Rennington Scarecrow Festival. Whilst we were there we enjoyed enormously the
excellent displays made by the villagers and guiding our children through the quiz. Unfortunately because of the hectic toing and froing
of organising three families through the displays, we didn't take advantage of purchasing the Rennington Scarecrow Calendars whilst we
were there and having left the village with such fond memories of the day I was wondering if there was any chance of being able to buy
some of these calendars thought the post.
Whatever the outcome of my request, I hope you can pass on to the organisers of the festival our thanks for organising such a lovely
event and let them know how much we enjoyed the day. It really cheered our hearts to know that there are still communities
capable of drawing together to produce such charming events.

Harry Potter
The much awaited final Harry Potter book, 'Harry Potter and the deathly

The NET
In case you haven't noticed, The NET has been published sporadically online. Click on Church Matters
or on the main navigation menu to be taken to the Church page where along with
other details, The NET is published.
There is also a complete record of the graves in the All Saints churchyard in Rennington - thanks to David Barraclough for the
research (it's a long file and may take some time to download on a standard
dial-up access).
Use your website and notice-board
This is a notice-board for the villages. As most people now have access to the internet, the site can become a focal point
for notices and news. Why not submit something to the webmaster for inclusion? Email the webmaster with some news, an article, a photograph
or anything that you think might interest the villages.
Would you like your own website?
Contact kinmagic. Feel free to
make contact regarding inclusions on the RockandRennington website.
Why not be included on the Resident's
page? Muck in and make this the best village website.
