Requiem for the Departed
As last year, we are inviting all who have experienced a bereavement in the Benefice to this special service which many find helpful. If you have experienced a bereavement and have not received an invitation, please take this as yours. We have done our best to follow up all the families of funerals taken in The Benefice, but some may have attended funerals elsewhere. It will be at 3pm on All Souls Day, November 2nd at Embleton Church, ending with a cup of tea, and we hope you will all be able to come.

THE HEART OF THE MATTER

"Why me?" asked Mary in wonder.
"Why us?" exploded Joseph in anxiety.
"Where can we stay?" they asked the inn-keeper.
"What in heaven's name?" wondered the shepherds.
"Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews?" asked the wise men.
"What is the threat to my throne?" thundered Herod.
"Why us?" sighed Joseph for umpteenth time.
"Why us?" cried the mothers of Bethlehem.
"What now?" ask the people of Embleton as another URC minister makes her appearance.

Revd. Joan Grindrod-Helmn is currently minister of St. James' URC in Alnwick and in December will take up an additional, oversight, ministry to Embleton United Reformed Church.

"What does this mean" - another question!

Some of our questions at the beginning of a new ministry will be answered sooner, some later, some never. All will be answered in God's good way as together you seek and find his way forward for you. My prayer is that God will help you together to find ways of worship and witness that are right for today; to find a relationship that is right for you; and to find him ever more strongly speaking to you and working through you in your community.

Colin H. Biggs.
URC Interim Moderator.
